The scholarship was established in 1994 by a gift from the Keith Laugesen Charitable Trust. The scholarship is available every third year to students enrolled for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculties of Science or Engineering. The conditions for the scholarship are as for the University of Canterbury Doctoral Scholarship.
