2009/2010 Scholarship for Doctor Research in electronic and Information Engineering
2009/2010 Scholarship for Doctor Research in electronic and Information Engineering
The Hudswell International Research Scholarships are available to assist members with advanced research work leading to the award of a Doctor at an internationally recognised university or research establishment with a high reputation for research in the field of electrical, electronic, manufacturing or information engineering. It is hoped that the award will encourage co-operation between industry and the higher education sector and that an international industrial organisation may be associated with the Scholarship.
There are 3 scholarships available, each worth up to £5,000. Scholarships are tenable for one year only – successful applicants will not be allowed to make a repeat application.
Application
1. Download an application form from the ‘DOWNLOADS’ section in the right hand menu.
2. Detach the referee’s section of the application form (within Microsoft Word; select ‘Tools’ and then ‘Un-protect document’) and forward this to your referee for completion. Note that the reference must be submitted to the IET by your referee (and not yourself).
3. Your referee should ideally be someone who is in a position to comment on your academic ability (e.g. a college tutor) or, where this is not possible, an employer.
4. If you have already commenced the research programme please submit a progress report (not exceeding 4 pages of A4 in length) with your application specifying the subject area of your research, its aims and what has been achieved so far.
5. Please note that an IET award may be held in addition to a Student Loan/EPSRC grant, or similar, and company bursaries. Candidates who are receiving industrial sponsorship should indicate this in their application, stating the value of the bursary.
6. You must be an IET member (see right hand menu) prior to application for a postgraduate award and you (or your course of studies) must satisfy the educational requirements for Registration as either a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer in the UK.
7. Please do not post the form. The form must be forwarded to the following email address by the deadline: 20 April 2009
Email: awards@theiet.org
The application form, reference and all supporting documents must be received by the application closing date. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
