2009-2010 Scholarship of Plamer Scholar

2009-2010 Scholarship of Plamer Scholar

The requirements to be a Palmer Scholar

In order to become a Palmer Scholar, you must be a low-income minority student living in Pierce County. You must also meet college entrance requirements for the school of your choice.

The application

You may obtain an application from your high school counselor or from our website here.

The application process
You complete the application, write four essays, obtain the necessary references letters, get a copy of your unofficial transcripts from your high school and complete the fafsa4caster. Include all this information in a single packet and send to the Palmer Scholars office at:
Palmer Scholars
PO Box 7119
Tacoma, WA 98417
www.palmerscholars.org
Note: The deadline for the 2009 – 2010 applications is December 22, 2008.

Your application will be read and scored by our Selection Committee. Semi-finalists will be scheduled for an interview. After the interview the finalists will be selected.

Your scholarship award will be based on your need. We will review all your other sources of college funding prior to making our award. The most that any student receives will be $4,500 but awards may be as low as $500.

Your Palmer Scholars award will remain the full four years that you are in college. The only re-application will come if you need a fifth year of college to complete your degree.

You must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and a full time status in college. If you fall below either of these two requirements you will be put on probation with the Palmer Scholars organization.

The graduation
Over 90% of our students graduate from college within five years.

We believe our scholars are so successful because we support them so well with our mentoring program.

We ask that you participate fully in the two annual events and be a part of the Palmer Alumni Association upon graduation. Many of our alumni also become mentors for upcoming students, participate on our board and become donors to help support a new generation of Palmer Scholars.

The class of 2009-2010 will be participating in spring training. If you are awarded the Palmer Scholarship, you will meet with the rest of your incoming class of Palmer Scholars for training each week. These trainings are required and designed to help you be more successful in college.
